Intensive Outpatient Program

Intensive Outpatient Program

The Intensive Outpatient Program level of care is commonly covered as part of many insurance benefit programs in relation to drug and alcohol addiction treatment. Usually those clients who are a part of the IOP treatment program come from the intensive inpatient and transition into this part of the treatment program. This means that they successfully completed everything they needed to do in inpatient treatment and are now ready to begin going to work or school again.

An IOP is a treatment program that offers group meetings, similar to those offered during the rehabilitation phase of drug and alcohol treatment, that supports clients by providing a platform for addressing issues that come with early sobriety such as going back to work, re-building relationships with family and friends, and socializing as a sober person.

The amount of hours spent in groups is significantly decreased to half a day and the other half of the day the client spends searching for work, at work, going to school, etc. The focus becomes more on life goals, moving on with life, what the plan is if they go home, and long-term recovery.
